The Max2 (also known as 3275M) is a sprayer that sits between the units that are designed for the home or light professional user and the sprayers that suit those users who require greater chemical resistance and sprayers that can handle a lot of work.

The Max 2 has a 2.5-metre recoil hose which gives superb reach and flexibility when you don't want to carry the tank. Place the tank on level ground and you can freely walk whilst spraying. Another advantage of a recoil hose is that it allows you to keep everything neat and tidy and you don't have to worry about trailing a long hose.

In addition, you have the option of an additional 5-metre hose. Simply swap the hoses, when required, and you can now move up to 5-metres from your tank. This can be very useful when spraying from a ladder as the tank can stand on the floor whilst you spray at height or just leave the tank in one place whilst you walk.

The sprayer is also fitted with FPM seals meaning that it can handle acidic chemicals and has, generally, better chemical resistance than those with NBR seals. The MAX 2 also benefits from a tank ullage (difference between total tank volume and filling catacity) of 3-litres which means a longer spray time between pressurising as the larger volume allows for the storage of more pressurised air. The build quality, of the Max 2, is very high, when compared to comparably priced sprayers, meaning that it will handle more 'rough & tumble' so professional users will find this a good addition to their kit.

This sprayer can also be used with a compressor, meaning that you would have a constant supply of air with no pumping (accessories 0649 or 0746 required).

If you want to use this sprayer with either of our long telescopic lances (5.4-metre or 3.2-metre) then you will need to purchase our In-line Connector. You can find both types of telescopic lance together with the in-line connector in the above accessories list so can be easily selected together with the sprayer.

The box in which the sprayer is packaged is aesthetically pleasing, with bright colours and clearly laid out information. The top of the box has been cut in such a way that a handle can be formed, facilitating the carrying of the unopened sprayer. The packaging feels sturdy and, after giving the box a shake, it seems that the contents have been packed well.

Upon opening the box, I find that this is indeed the case. The pieces fit together like blocks in a game of Tetris. There is little danger of damage to the individual pieces through heavy-handedness in transporting the box. Unpacking the contents, I am presented with a coiled hose. Having a coiled hose as opposed to a standard long type is incredibly handy. Not only does it save space when packing the sprayer, it is also far less likely to get in the way when one is spraying. Next, I pull out the trigger handle. The trigger handle itself is lockable, useful in avoiding inadvertent spraying. The pressure gauge on the handle is pleasing on the eye. Its clear layout and colour scheme make it easy to read the pressure, whilst the ability to read the pressure in both psi and bar caters for either preference. The box also contains a strap, packed individually in a small plastic bag, making it possible to carry the sprayer on one's shoulder, should one so desire. The lance included with the sprayer is made of brass and has a 360° rotational nozzle for difficult-to-spray areas. Included with the sprayer is a service voucher, guaranteeing service of the sprayer by MESTO-SPCB within the first 24 months after purchase (please find further details within the service voucher), as well as a comprehensive instruction manual. Instructions are written in numerous languages, from German to Romanian, but all clear and comprehensive. Within the instruction manual is a smaller leaflet, which gives information on metering and liquid distribution for plant treatment.

With the box otherwise emptied and the instruction manual read from cover to cover, I finally pull out the sprayer itself. The sprayer is light and easy to remove from the box using the handle on the top of the tank. Placing the tank on my desk, I find that it is a compact piece of equipment that it is both aesthetically and functionally satisfactory. The yellow/black design found in most MESTO products gives the tank a smart appearance. The compression chamber is easy to unscrew with the same handle used for lifting it, and filling to the desired level is made easy with the levels given down the side of the product. To the rear of the sprayer I find two holes for holding lances, as well a pressure release valve.

Assembling the sprayer is simple, with only a handful of pieces to connect. The hose attaches to the bottom of the tank, passing through a clearly visible hole in the black base of the tank. The trigger handle is then attached to the other end of the hose. I found this a little tricky but, after dipping the end of the hose in hot water for a few seconds, the handle could be connected by pushing the two pieces together. Finally, the lance is screwed on to the handle. These pieces all connect in a relatively simple manner, but step-by-step instructions can be found in the manual should one have any difficulty with the assembly.

This just looks like another 5-litre sprayer why is it more expensive than some in your range but cheaper than others?

You get what you pay for. The price of a sprayer depends upon what features the sprayer has such as hose type, seals, internal coatings and connectors. It may not always be obvious what the differences are but our technical specifications should give much of the information for you. This particular sprayer is a very high specification for its type. It has the 2.5-metre recoil hose, FPM seals, pressure gauge and a 3-litre ullage which is well above average for this size of sprayer.

What does Tank Ullage mean?

Ullage is the name given to the gap between the maximum fill and the total tank capacity. It is important with sprayers as the larger the ullage is then the more space there is for compressed air. The more compressed air you have then the longer spraying time you have before you run out of pressure. This sprayer has an ullage of 3-litres which is very good for a sprayer with this size of tank.

Can this sprayer be used with your long telescopic lances?

Yes, the Max 2 compression sprayer can be used with both our 5.4-metre and 3.2-metre telescopic lances. You will need our In-line Connector which we have included with the lances on the accessories listed above.

Please explain the option for the additional hose

With the Max 2 sprayer, you have the choice of purchasing an additional 5-metre hose. The sprayer is supplied with a 2.5-metre recoil hose as standard. This is a very useful and practical hose which works very well for most spraying applications. However, some of our customers have found that a longer hose would be helpful especially when spraying from a ladder as the tank can be left on the floor. The additional hose is not a recoil design but is supplied with both tank and stop valve fittings meaning that the two hoses can be easily swapped when required.
